The Community Food Stop
Unfortunately the Community Food Stop Café is currently closed due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. We hope that we will be able to open it up again in 2021 when it is safe to do so.
Here is some information about the project.
Set up in 2016, the Community Food Stop is a café selling healthy, wholesome food. It is based within Bonar Bridge Community Hall, every Monday. The aim is to make nutritious food available to all, not just those who can afford it. Everyone is welcome at the café, as the focus is also on social inclusion. This means that those who normally have to eat alone, can come along to the café and eat with others and perhaps make new friends. Payment is voluntary in the form of a donation.
Once a month, the Community Food Stop runs an Evening Café – providing an evening of food and entertainment, from 6.00pm-8.00pm. Payment is by donation.
Occasionally throughout the year we hold weekend events, such as ‘The Big Brunch’ to mark National Poverty Week, and an Afternoon Tea to tie in with the Kyle of Sutherland Gala week.
Through an SCVO and Edinburgh University ‘Food, Poverty and Social Exclusion Research Project’, Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust were able to host Post Graduate Student Lee McNeish while he undertook an eight-week independent research project to look at the impact of the Community Food Stop within the community.
